Barcelona Hotels
I recently purchased a 98 copy of Fodors spain. In the Barcelona lodging section they highly recommended Hotel Espans. I have tried in vain to get any information on this hotel. Even the Spainish travel office in Nyc had no information on it. I was told that although I have recent copy of Fordors, travel guides are not very good at providing up to date information. Has anyone ever heard of this hotel? Does it still exist? We are taking a cruise on NCl departing ftom Barcelona and arriving back in Barcelona on 10/10. This will be our first visit to Barcelona and although I have a Spainish surname I unfotuiiately don't speak any Spainish. We are intrested in a clean, comfortable hotel in Barcelons . Any suggestions based upon your experience will be most appreciated. We are interested in hotels in the $100/day price range
Thanks
joe

Joe: Last time we were in Barcelona we stayed at a wonderful hotel - the Colon. Fantastic location right on the plaza of the cathedral. Right around the corner is their sister hotel - the Regency Colon, where we will be staying in October 'cause there's no room at the Colon. Both hotels have a good website that I was able to reach thru "Barcelona-on-line". We also can recommend a great restaurant - "Set Portes" that is within walking distance of these hotels. Good luck and enjoy your trip.
Jim.

We also stayed at the Hotel Colon, like the previous respondent. It was a beautiful hotel, located right across the cathedral on the square. We enjoyed it immensely. However, it most certainly is not in the $100/night range. We paid about $150 for a room not facing the cathedral. However, we thought it was money well spent. If you choose to spend time there, room 427 (I think) has the best view of the cathedral. All rooms on the 5th floor, where we stayed, have magnificent balconies.
