Barcelona- help with apt locations
I am traveling to Barcelona with my 11 year old daughter and looking at different apartment's available for my dates. I have read through many forums and am familiar with various rental agencies, sites etc. There is not a lot available for my specific dates and all of the forums state that the precise location is important. I am obviously looking for safety first- being two females/one is a child. We will want a location where we will be safe coming in during evenings. I like to be close to restaurants and have good neighborhood feel. Here is what I found. I am looking for advice on LOCATION- for traveling with child. Thanks!

Here are the apt links for the ones above that I used maps only:
http://negre.us/apartments/CN/AT/
http://www.vrbo.com/443811
-located in Canvis Nous 6,
Please note I am open to suggestions if you think Eixample is better or even Gracia. Thank you for any feedback.

I prefer Eixample close to Rambla de Catalunya ( not Ramblas).
Wide, well lit streets, shops and restaurants galore.
I often travel alone and stay out after midnight.
Other posters may prefer the feel of older parts of the city..

I've not opened or looked at any of your links.
But this is where I stay when in Barcelona...
http://www.thebarcelonaflat.com/The_...t/Welcome.html
It's in the old part of town, just around the corner from Palau de Musica Catalana, and less than 5 minutes from Mercat de Santa Caterina. Place Catalanya is little more, as are the Catedral and Picasso Museum.
There are plenty of restaurants locally and across towards Las Ramblas.
The apartment has 2 bedrooms. I've stayed there with my daughter, and with fellow Fodorite Barb. My 20yo son will be staying there in early June.
It is 80 euros a night - fantastic value for the location - with 6 nights for the price of 5. Deepak (the owner) is really easy to deal with and you can pay by PayPal.
The only negative is that there is no air conditioning, but you'd only really need that from mid-June to mid-September. We didn't need it at the end of September or in October.
It may be totally not what you want, but at least it is a personal recommendation.

So far I have been focused on Born area based on prior comments. I will look for Eixample too (left) near your suggestion.
For those with Born knowledge/preference I found two more apartments at these locations:

Oh, and I never answered your most important que3stion - that of safety!
Absolutely no problem at all. You won't be coming back very late at night, but even when we did we never had a moment's trepidation or anxiety about our safety.
The streets are old, narrow and a bit maze-like, but once you pinpoint how to find it mentally, it's fine. It is above a small supermarket which is open late, and actually makes it easier to find!
Hope this helps a bit with regard to location.

Thanks Julia. As I stated before- the city is almost entirely sold out for my dates so I am having to really dig. Your apt is not available. Thanks for suggesting though. Hopefully one of the locals will chime in as they seem so specific of certain streets being safer then others.
So you think Born will be good for myself and 11 year old? Thanks!
