My top 5 would be:

1. Montjuic, a large hill overlooking the city - visit the Poble Espagnol (Spanish Village) for lunch, then walk up to the Olympic stadium and on to the Miro gallery (amazing modern art pieces)

2. Gaudi's famous unfinished masterpiece - the Sagrada Familia cathedral. Take the lift up the tower for wonderful views over the city.

3. Parc Guell. More Gaudi buildings straight out of Hansel and Gretel.

4. La'Aquarium, Barceloneta. State of the art aquarium. Arguably the best in Europe. Nearby IMAX cinema and popular seafood restaurants.

5. La Ramblas. Wide, pedestrianised shopping street. Full of cafe's where you can just relax and watch the world go by.

Agree with Gordon's top 5, though for me Sagrada would come lower down the list... I loved viewing it from atop the Montjuic hill but up close and personal didnt do as much for me...

If you are interested I visited Barcelona over easter and posted my travel trip when I got back.

You can find it by doing a search on Barcelona Trip Report, dont match exact phrase though.

Kavey

I liked visiting the Sagrada Familia a bit more that Kavey did. I don't remember from her excellent trip report whether she climbed around in the top of the spires or not (that was a lot of fun).

Our favorite thing to do was to wander the latin quarter exploring its shops, tapas bars and cocktail bars. There's something around every corner and down every alley.

And a tapas bar crawl is a great way to spend an evening.

Hiya

Dont get me wrong, Sagrada would still be on my top 15 list, maybe even top 10, but it was so crowded and hemmed in by other buildings that we didnt stick around long.

I couldnt bear (bare?) to stick around in the throngs (not thongs!!!) to climb up. I bet the view would be good though!!

Top ten

Park Guell
La Ramblas
Palau Musica (sp?) interior
Boqueria (fruit market)
Monjuic, taking the little train around
Poble Espanyol
Cable Car trip on Montjuic (would have also liked to do the big one over the port but was closed)
Los Caracoles restaurant, a trip in itself
Aquarium
Barceloneta
Sagrada Familia

Oops thats 11...

and I am sure I have missed things...!

Kavey

Don't miss the Palau de la Musica -- you won't believe the stained glass 3D skylight!

Picasso Museum overrated; Miro Foundation is what to see.

The old cathedral is a wonderful counter-point to the Sagrada, and you can see one from the other plus a great view of the city and harbor.

La Pedrera's roof is also a must-see.

Hi Bob,
Don't know is you've already left. If not, here's a tip. In July, on Friday and Saturday nights, they have music (and champagne) on the rooftop of La Pedrera - Gaudi's Casa Mila - from 9-12:00 p.m. It was one of the BEST things I did. Hope you'll get to go while there. Have fun.
