Ok we are all set for this Thanksgiving. We decided to visit Barcelona. We will be there for 5 days only. We are a family of 4 (Me, my wife and our kids---11 and 9). Any suggestions on what to do and see (yes we know we won't see everything...). The must see places...

We love bringing back souvenirs to our friends and would also like to hear suggestions on those as well.

Barcelona is great - easy to walk around, good public transit, lots to see.

I have a thing I got in Barcelona which describes the Ruta di Modernisma. If you email me, I'll send it to you. It does a lot more than just modernism

In Barcelona, I really enjoyed the Museum of the City of Barcelona, which gives access to excavations of the ancient Roman streets and building sites underneath the Gothic Quarter.

The Maritime Museum is housed in the medieval shipyards near the waterfront.

La Pedrera, the apartment building by Gaudi, was very interesting.

The cable car running from the port at Barceloneta up to Montjuic gives wonderful views of the whole city.

The Tramvia Blau, a tram from the early twentieth century, goes up Tibidabo, the hill that rises behind the city. Mirablau is a nice bar/restaurant at the top of the tram from which there are great views, for a stop if you want a snack or cold drinks. From the top of the tram, you can ride a funicular up the rest of the way. There is an amusement park at the top, which may not be open this time of year, but there are great views.

The Boqueria Market along Las Ramblas is wonderfully colorful and has a couple of counter restaurants inside where it is fun to stop for breakfast or lunch.

Take a stroll down the ramblas as well. Some of the street performers are awesome and there is an award-winning market.

I would scratch the Maritime Museum for the war museum in the fortress up Montjuïc (including from a kids perspective).
It's a lot more interesting and the views over the city are great.

If you are still in Barcelona on the 2nd, check out the Fira de Santa Llúcia christmas markets outside the gothic cathedral on Plaza Nova.

Look out for the caganers, christmas statuettes of men squatting down to poo (out presents apparently). This is a really original and catalan tradition around christmas and the statues are hilarious. and cultural.
