Siobhan, your experience is tying in with ours. DH was working for an Irish company but in Manchester initially. As I said he eventually had to go to Dublin for the day to sort out his bank account, armed with a letter from his employer to say he worked there & a letter from a colleague to say he lived at his house.

Siobhan, she is doing an internship but it's through her school and counts as a semester of school. She's not being paid. In fact, she's paying tuition (well, actually, a field study fee) to her school. So, yes, she is a student. And is actually enrolled at her college this semester while she's in Ireland.

As I've mentioned before, her school, like many others these days, is big on doing a semester abroad. But, in her case, her advisors felt that it would be much more benficial to her to do this internship with the Rape Crisis Network (which is related to what she's studying at school) rather than to take the same psychology classes that she could take at her own school.

caph52 Thanks for clarifying that but I want to make sure you have the least amount of hassle with the bank. She will not be a student in Ireland i.e. registered with an irish University or College and they may not recogonise her as a student Talk to the banks in advance to get you paperwork together and I still think she will be unable to open an account as a non-resident. These are the two main Irish Banks and you can get a contact via mail off the website

www.boi.ie Bank of Ireland
www.aib.ie - Allied Irish Bank

Both have branches all over Ireland
