Balloch or Luss, Scotland

My husband and I will be in Scotland for a couple of days and want to take a bus tour of Loch Lomond & Stirling Castle from Edinburgh. We have found two tour companies (Timberbush & Highland Explorer) which offer basically the same tour, but one stops in Balloch and the other in Luss. I have tried to find info about these two towns and can't seem to learn much. What are the towns like & would one be more enjoyable than the other? Also, for those familiar with these two tour companies, is one better than the other?

I've only been to Luss, which is a cute small town on the shores of Loch Lomond, about midlake (or midloch). This was last May and bluebells carpeted the slopes of the hills above town.

Luss is not you would call a "town". It is a village on the shore of Loch Lomond. Balloch grew from a similar village but is at a busy crossroads.

Not knowing the itineraries of the tours you are considering, the stops are probably just lunch breaks. All other things being equal - I'd choose Luss. most of the homes have gorgeous gardens and there is a pier with views up/down/and across the whole loch.

We are stopping in Luss or Balloch to explore the town or to take a cruise on Loch Lomond. We will eat lunch in Aberfoyle. I goofed on the tour companies it is Timberbush & Scotline.

We stayed in Balloch for a week in 2006 and having now just found the info from the holiday things are slowly coming back.

Most of our days were spent visiting places outside of Balloch (including Luss) as there wasn't much to do in the village.

However we did visit Balloch Castle Country Park which had some nice walks lasting about 1 hour. (If the weather is nice you could spend longer enjoying the views)

The other place we visited (on a rainy day) was the Lochmond Visitor Centre and Quayside Retail Area - Basically a small shopping and food centre.

In Luss we did a nice walk around the village again lasting about an hour and there was a small visitors centre.

I don't think you could find anything to do for more than 3 hours in either place.

Check out the website www.lochlomond-trossachs.org for some info.

We also spent a day at Stirling Castle and have to say this was one of the best Castles we have visited.
