Baggage Allowance
Hi, Within the next few day am traveling from San Francisco by KLM to Amsterdam and then connecting to Rome by Alitalia. Question 1). what is the tourist class checked baggage weight allowance on KLM and Alitalia 2). What is the weight allowance on carry on baggage on each airline and how strict are they? Heard it was only 5kg, is that so?
Thanks for the responses in advance

Hello Gallant, doesn't the airline website show their maximum allowance for luggage..checked luggage and carryon luggage? Although if you are in the US I imagine you booked KLM through NWA. Does their website address this issue? If not I would call them for the information.

The checked allowance is 2 bags, unless you booked separate tickets, as noted by alanRow. Each bag can weigh up to 50 lbs (23 kg).
For your carry-on, you get one piece with the following dimensions:
1 piece of L55 x W25 x H35 cm
You also get one personal item, such as a purse, camera, umbrella, or briefcase. The total weight of both the carry-on and the accessories must be under 26 lbs (12 kg)
While they are not as strict as some of the Star Alliance carriers (where the carry-on limit can be as low as 8 kg), KLM will often have someone standing near the check-in line to eye-ball the bags and put a yellow tag onto the approved carry-on. They do tend to be strict on the number, but I have never had them weigh my bags. My guess would be that they might give a second look if you like to travel with an overstuffed roll-aboard.

Thank you all for giving me your inputs. We will be in transit in Amsterdam for our connection to Rome. I was concerned about Alitalia since the luggage allowances were different from KLM (NWA)on the web sites. Again thanks.
