Apparently in summer some ferries do do Croatia - Corfu from where lots of ferries go to mainland Greece:

PalenQ, which ferry company offers that service in the summer? I use the Greek website gtp.gr for reference on ferry routes, and couldn't find any origin or destination in Croatia. Note: the Greek name for Corfu is Kerkyra.

Heimdall - I did not read the link I gave carefully enough as it says:

It is still possible to travel between Greece and Croatia by ferry - but not directly. Instead you will have to take a rather large detour across the Adriatic to Italy. Ferry timetables change significantly depending on the season and day of the week - indeed it sometimes seems as if the goal of Jadrolinija, Croatia's biggest ferry company, is to operate a different schedule on every day of the year. So be sure to check timetables for the specific day you intend to travel - you can do this through the websites listed at the end of this page.

So again thanks for correcting me and my sloppy research. the site does detail going thru Albania by bus.

I'm glad we've cleared that up, PalenQ.

Another point, ferries from Italy that call at Corfu go on to Igoumenitsa and/or Patras, so anyone travelling to mainland Greece just stays on the ferry.

Frankly, in these days of cheap air travel those old international ferry routes seem redundant to me. Friends who travel from the UK to Greece by car still use the ferry, but that's to avoid the long route through the Balkans which my daughter and SIL took in their Land Rover a few years ago on their overland trip from London to Cape Town.

Me too and ferries are probably more expensive than planes and you have to get to the Adriatic to hop them but they continue and I think adding luxuries make them kind of a cruise ship - young backpackers may find many others like them on them too - on railpasses that still I think pay for some ferries' fares - sleep on board at night and save costs on a hotel, hostel, etc.
