Back from England/Scotland III

This continues the two previous posts.

On Sunday, we took our daughter to John Lennon airport at Liverpool. Sad to see her leave but glad we had over a week together. Shed some tears. Then we drove to Stratford on Avon and took a guide Friday tour. Then did the walking tour. Drove north to Kenilworth Castle to meet relatives. Ate across the street from Kenilworth Castle at a pub. Spent the night at Coombe House in Bourton on the water. Nice b&b.

Monday, we walked around Bourton on the water and walked from Lower Slaughter to Upper Slaughter, then drove to Bath. Stayed at Victoria's. Toured the roman baths and the church. The stained glass windows were beyond belief. Had tea next to the Roman Baths. Bath was very crowded during the day and almost empty at night. We were amazed at the number of people walking around Bath and wondered where they had all gone.

Tuesday, we left Bath and drove to Glastonbury to see the abbey. One of the high points of our trip was attending a service in the small chapel that is part of the abbey grounds. We stopped at the chalice well, then toured Stonehenge, drove through Avebury (want to go back there sometime) and arrived at Blenheim Palace just in time for the next to last tour. Left Blenheim in the dark, drove to London, dropped off the car, metroed to our Holiday Inn hotel at Gloucester Road station, ate (again!) at the Pizza Piaza and crashed for our last night in London.

Left for the USA from Heathrow the next morning.

If anyone has any questions, I'll be glad to try to answer them. Once again, thanks to the fodorites for your help. We're now planning an April/May trip to France and using Fodor's site for information for that trip.
Sounds like you squeezed a lot in. I do have one question though. Since Woodstock is less than 20 miles from Bourton, why did you go all the way to Bath, Glastonbury, Stonehenge and Avebury before visiting Blenheim? Wouldn't have made more sense to go to Blenhein and then do your Bath>Avebury loop? Avebury is only about an hour from LHR

You're absolutely right about our driving not being the most efficient. What happened was that we weren't sure that we were going to have time to do everything. Once we realized that we had time to visit Blenheim before dropping off the car, we decided to take the tour. It was a last minute addition.

PHEW, I am glad it was a last minute addition instead of planned that way ahead of time. Great that you got to squeeze Blenheim in.
