sallen ... we have stayed in Bacharach three times over the past 5 years. There is a wonderful youth hostel at the top of the hill ...if this is what you are interested in. It is a 10 - 15 minute hike up the hill to the youth hostel from the train station - or if you are driving there is a small parking lot at the top of the hill. Accommodations within the castle have all been refurbished and it is very pleasant (but can be noisy depending on the other guests). There are numerous vineyards nearby and many offer tours. Lots of trails including an old Roman road near the youth hostel. There are lots of hits if you google key words like Bacharach, wine, tour.

We have visited Rudesheim, but never stayed there so I can't comment on overnight accommodations. Hope you have a fantastic time in the Rhine Valley.

i second bacharach. although rudesheim´s main narrow street with all the signs is the most ornate we saw, the town, in general, seems not to have as much to offer as bacharach.

Absolutely Bacharach. Rudesheim has a "boardwalk" feel. Kind of yuk.
