I highly recommend the following B&B in Bath:

Brock’s Guest House
32 Brock Street
Bath, Avon, England BA1 2LN
01225-338374 phone
01225-334245 fax

This beautiful B&B is located between the Circus and Royal Crescent (some consider this the loveliest part of Bath). I found this to be the quintessential B&B and became very fond of the proprietor, Marion Dodd who will take excellent care of you. She always pointed us in the right direction, particularly when it came to restaurants.

Good luck!

We enjoyed our two nights at the Sydney Gardens Hotel, right on the park (Sydney Gardens), near the Holburne Museum of Art at the end of Great Pultney Street.

Beautiful setting, comfortable rooms, full English breakfast, and easy walk into Bath to see the sights. Small nice touches, like a mni fridge in the hall with milk in it for guests who used the tea setups in the rooms. Completely nonsmoking, onsite parking, with ensuite baths.

We were give not only a key to the house and the room, but also a key that opened the gate from the park into the grounds of the house, for returning home.

http://www.bath.org/hotel/sydney.htm

Bob, My husband and I stayed three days this past May at Haydon House in Bath and it was absolutely wonderful. The house and gardens are just beautiful and the breakasts and hospitality were superb. The rooms and bathrooms are large and luxurious. It was our favorite b&b of this trip. Be glad answer any other questions you might have. Have a great trip!

Mrs.Dodd offers several breakfast choices each morning in a charming breakfast room.My kids had pancakes with strawberries everyday,I tried the kippers one day. The poached eggs resemble a large scoop of whipped cream on the plate. I've read that you need to stir the water in order to get this effect.

If I recall, my husband and I stayed in Haydon House several years ago and it was absolutely lovely. We had a extremely large room at the top of the house, but later moved to a smaller room on a lower floor. (Some mix up with the booking....) The breakfasts were fantastic!

However, if this is indeed the same place I stayed, it is not near the center of town. We had to take cabs up to the B&B, because it was a particularly steep hill. It wasn't so bad walking down in the morning when you're full of breakfast and energy, though.

Unfortunately, I can't remember the names of the restaurants we ate at, but there was a terrific Indian place, a wonderful French bistro/cafe (I think it was the Tilley's mentioned by someone else here), and Tea--you MUST have tea.

Maybe someone else can provide more restaurants. I'll go dig through my notes and try to post again.

I also am interested in finding a B&B in Bath, and the Kennard did look very inviting, but so did SO MANY!!!! The Ayrlington caught my attention as did the Paradise House and several others. I checked out the Brock and it is not as upscale as the ones I listed, but they have the same pricing. Anyone else with experience with any of these B&B's?

More about the Kennard: Our travel agent booked it for us. She had other clients who had pleasant experiences there. Later, I also noticed that it is in Rick Steve's guidebook. I don't remember what we paid, but it was not the most expensive lodging we encountered, nor was it the cheapest. The proprietor was extremely helpful and courteous. He provided directions for us to fill our gas tank, return the rental and navigate about town. It is in walking distance of the major sites in town. There is a website for it, but unfortunately, I can't remember the exact URL.

www.kennard.co.uk Lunch at the Pump Room is a must experience for us every time we're there. With the Guide Friday hop on/hop off bus it's very easy to get around without a car.

We stayed at the Kennard a couple of years ago. We had a very nice room, but unfortunately, it faced the street, and at night the local soccer fans whooped and hollered until the wee hours.

The proprietor was indeed very kind, but I must admit that the breakfast served there was not my favorite. Seemed limp, mushy and strangely flavored.

So, there's good and bad there, IMO.
