B & B guides

Received a guide from the tourism bureau and the web site is www.townandcountry.ie.
Has anyone used this book? Is there a better book to use for B & Bs?

Personally, I think that book is the best. It gives you the most detailed info about each B&B, and more listings per town, than anything else I found.

I agree with CAPH52. I used several reference books and notes from this board for our trip, but more often than not, T&C proved the most helpful and accurate.

The Town & Country Book lists the majority of B&Bs in Ireland. Their website can also be accessed: www.townandcountry.ie

Family Homes of Ireland lists other B&Bs: www.familyhomes.ie You usually get the book free with you car rental. Tourism Ireland will not send it to you since they only recognize T&C.

Irish Farm Holidays is a listing of (what else?) farmhouse B&Bs: www.irishfarmholidays.com Tourism Ireland will send it to you if you ask.

If you are going to No. Ireland there are others to get.

I use all of them. They give you a photo, a brief description (written by the owners of the B&B), number of rooms, prices, contact info, etc.

There are a wide variety of B&Bs in those books. They are basically listings. If you want actual reviews of B&Bs in Ireland there are some good ones out there on websites as well as in book form. You can do a Google search or a search here on Fodor's.

We liked the b&bs in Michele Erdvig's Best Little Guide to Ireland (order on her web-site www.IrelandYes.com.) I also chose one out of Alastair Sawday's special places to stay in Ireland, and it was a great choice as well.

www.12travel.com and www.hidden-ireland.com have been great resources in our past travels.

I've used Karen Brown, Alastair Sawday and IrelandYes. When I plan a trip, I get their latest books.

I often hear it mentioned here on Fodors that Melissa's suggested book has excellent B&Bs. It depends on whether you want a "listing" or a reviewed place to stay.

I have found IrelandYes the most up to date. Look at her web site.

Another vote for Michele's book at Irelandyes. That said, it's good to have the Town and Country book. Michelle won't have a B&B for every place you might want to stay. All of hers will be nice though.
