Azay-le-Rideau son et lumiere

Hi Everyone,
We really enjoyed the son et lumiere we attended at Amboise on our last trip to the Loire. Next year we are returning to the Loire and wanted to attend one at Azay le Rideau. It is listed in my Michelin Green Guide but not on the http://azay-le-rideau.monuments-nationaux.fr/en/ website. Has anyone attended it recently? Does it still exist? The website only lists a nighttime walk in July and August for one hour. We will be there end of May.

Also, we stayed in Amboise last time and wanted to stay in Azay le Rideau this time so we would be close by to attend the son et lumiere since it goes until midnight or so. If there is no son et then where else would you recommend staying? We will be visiting vineyards and wineries in Vouvray, visiting Villandry again and just roaming about the beautiful countryside. Any suggestions would be appreciated. We will have a car so would probably prefer not to stay in big cities. We like B&Bs or small hotels under 100 euros a night.

Thanks again for the help,
Michele

It was when I went, but years ago. I went to as many as I could when I went. Not sure I would stay in any place JUST for the S&L.

Le Lude had horses, that was good

Chenonceau is a very nice chateau. I stayed at the following (120 euro is lowest room rate)

this website seems to think that the son et lumiere shows still exist, at 22.00 every night May to sept.

you could try the azay le rideau tourist office as well.

when we went about 30 years ago, there was a very good one in Blois, which was also in english at some times.

I believe they call it parcours nocturnes, not son et lumière, at Azay-le-Rideau. Maybe that will help google it.

We've stayed twice at a B&B at nearby Cheille (well, nominally in Cheille). It's called La Grange Bleue and the owner is a decorative painter. The old stone house is charmingly decorated and Mme Minier serves a very nice breakfast. She was very helpful both times, recommending a restaurant and even making the reservations, and calling around to find us another B&B when we tried to extend our stay with her and she was booked.

Hi Michel and Ann,
I read a review that it had horses. I think I will check with the tourist office. Good idea. I found reviews for the son et on Trip Advisor that's why I'm confused it is not on the chateau's website. We're not going to the Loire just for that but it sure looks beautiful. Roaming around the grounds at night with reflections of the chateau on the river. Thanks for the ideas.

Thanks you St. Cirq, I will check under that name.

Coquelicot , that B&B looks perfect and it is close to everything we want to do. Thank you.

Michel...your hotel rec is beautiful too, but a little above our budget. Unfortunately we have to be very strict with our budget as we will be gone six weeks this time and a few extra dollars here and there really add up. I will save it in my favorites for another time though.

Thank you all!

FWIW... If it ends up there isn't a son et lumiere in Azay-le-Rideau, the one in Blois that annhig mentioned was good when I went about 4 years ago. Of course it's a very different setting! But beautiful nonetheless.

Thanks ggreen,
I will check that out as a backup. We just really enjoyed the one in Amboise so I knew we wanted to attend another one.
Thanks, Michele
