Hi DebitNM, we are staying at a B&B called Mas Perreal. Sat Saturnin does sound like a nice little town. Any suggestions? Hoping to see some Lavender too.
grandmere, we are staying with a French family who live about 10 mins out of Sommierres. It will be over the holiday weekend of Bastille day. My husband has been there before back in 2011 when he stayed with the family for a month to help teach them English.

I agree with Christina on the pleasures of Avignon, though I was not there when it was crowded. The contrast between the wall paintings in the Palais and the framed paintings in the Petit Palais were surprising and instructive. Lots of interesting architecture, good food, excellent shopping.
We stayed, IIRC, at the other Mercure across the plaza from yours. Very much a business hotel, but that was not a negative.
It's pretty easy to get to Arles if you need more variety.

aussie_10 how was the trip? Any standout meals in Avignon, Arles, St Remy or the surrounding area? Heading there for a 2 week house rental Aug 9 so would love a brief update on favorite restaurants. Thanks!
