Average price for US=> Italy flight?
he more responses here the better... my tickets were bought six months ago by a family member with frequent flier miles, with the understanding that we'd pay a "fair value" for one of the two before we left. We're flying from New Orleans to Rome on US Airways in July, with connections in Philly and Frankfurt.
I'm more interested into what an average flight costs than what THIS flight would cost... obviously we couldn't shop around since we were confined to one airline and select flights. So, if anyone will share how much a US=>Italy ticket cost them, it'd help me in figuring out a fair value.
Thanks in advance

One week ago you could have gotten a flight from the East Coast R/T to Rome for less than $500; those particular flights are now about $1800.00
We got our tickets to Paris for July back in February, on sale, and are flying First Class for quite a bit less than $1800, but, as I said, we got them on sale.
Frankly, I somehow doubt you'll be able to determine any "fair values" much less "average prices" since ticket prices change constantly. But good luck anyway.

I'd definitly say in the $800 range. I've flown to Italy two of the last three summers and am going again this coming July. Three years ago tickets were $810, last year $850 (mine were free from frequent flyer miles but at the time of purchase they were $850), and this years are $895. But that's to Palermo which adds a bit over the cost of Rome. These are from the east coast. But since you have two connections, that makes them worth less, usually, than non-stop or only one connection. As the other's said, you can't go by what the prices are today, in June. Nobody (who is interested in saving money) would buy them this late. In the examples above mine were purchased between January and March each year.

I agree with the person on the other board regarding resale on at least two counts. One, the tickets aren't to be resold and two, the family member isn't handling this well. The "cost" should have been determined months ago. In the last 6 months, there have been widely varying prices.
$750 was the first amount that popped in my mind. But, as has been said on this thread, two connections would decrease the value of the flight. I would offer $500 each. $1000 would be adequate profit to a family member in my opinion.

For some reason the reply I put up last night didn't stick...
What happeend was my aunt said she'd buy my ticket as my christmas present, which is what's allowing me to go in the first place. However, flying on miles limited the seats available and confined us to one airline, so we couldn't shop for a best price ticket. Since my girlfriend and I obviously wanted to travel together, we booked both tickets with miles with the understanding that she would pay my aunt back, but not necessarily at the high rate of the one airline and seat we could find. At the time, seemed like $1200 was the going rate for tickets (based on a few people) but now people insist that it should have been much lower and that I'm trying to gouge my girlfriend's father out of money. I know... my problem, not you all's. It's such a ridiculous situation, but I think based on what's in here and the "friends and family" exchange rate that $800 is going to be the magic number and everyone's happy. My aunt actually doesn't really care - the money's not an issue to her - it's the other side of the equation, which thinks the 1200 figure I mentioned is way too high.
The other wrinkle is that because of seat restrictions, we had to book business class. Thankfully, nobody thinks that should be a factor since it wasn't our choice. But hey... first time going to Europe, first time flying in the front... couldn't sound better to me.
Thanks to all who helped on this thread and the other with advice (on this and other topics).
