blh, I really enjoyed your report and am so glad you had great weather for the train ride up to Schafberg Mtn.

We were also in Hallstatt recently (October 30 & 31) and thoroughly enjoyed another visit to this beautiful place. The Fall colors were so vivid!

By the time we arrived, however, the lakeside restaurant at Gasthof Simony had closed. In fact, many places were closed or closing for the season. We ended up at the Zauner Hotel several times as it was the only restaurant open. And, I think we had the same waiter as you!

We fed lots of swans and ducks and enjoyed another visit to the Hallstatt Museum.

Glad to read about your time in Vienna as we will be going there next year.

I enjoyed your trip report. I am going to Salzburg in December but there is so much to do in the warmer weather I'm sure I'll go back. I loved the B&B Pension Sarstein and I'll bookmark it for my next trip. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, bettyk and sandicran! Things do seem to close early in Hallstatt - sorry to hear you had our waiter at Zauner! Too bad Gasthof Simony had closed. Glad you enjoyed your visit with the fall colors. They were beginning to turn when we were there the middle of October.

sandicran, hope you enjoy your trip in December. Hope you are able to go to Hallstatt when the weather is warmer so that more is open and you can enjoy the outdoor dining, etc. I'm sure it's beautiful though in all seasons.
