Autoeurope rental

Each year we book a car from Autoeurope and each year I start checking the rates a few month ahead. With discounts of the day and rental town rates continually go up and down by a few hundred dollars (we're 5-6 week rental).

Is there a rhyme or reason to the fluxuation.... will I get a better rate based on day of the week, how many days before travel, or ???

I have found that usually, but not always, the closer you get to your departure date, the prices increase.

The last few times we have made our reservations through gemut.com for our Germany, Austria and Switzerland trips and have gotten discounted rates through them for Autoeurope as well as the one-class upgrades that Autoeurope sometimes offers.

While you are asked to prepay your rental, there is NO penalty for cancelling if you find a better rate later. So find a rate you can live with and go for it. Keep checking and if you find a better rate, cancel and rebook at the cheaper rate.

sorry, didn't mean to be curt. I see that you are relatively new to Fodors. Perhaps you did not know that the best way to find old messages that you have posted is to click on your screen name jnjfraz, either at the top of the screen where it says "Welcome" or anywhere else it shows up as a blue, underlined text indicating an internet link.

You received several replies to your earlier posting, and if you wish to bring that message back to the top of the list so it shows up in the top 50 in the left column, you can reply with a comment, or simply ttt (meaning to the top).

I just booked with autoeurope.fr and received much lower rates than those offered on autoeurope.com for the same dates and cars.
