Austrian Hotels

Anyone have any comments on the following hotels

Vienna: Zur Wiener Staatsoper;
Hotel Roemischer Kaiser;

Graz: Romantik Parkhotel;
Schlossberg Hotel;

Innsbruck: Goldener Adler;
Weisses Roessl;

Salzburg: Hotel Elefant;
Hotel Kasererbraeu.

We are looking for small, family-friendly hotels in each location that are accessible by public transportation and not too expensive in the event anyone has other suggestions.

We stayed at the Roemischer Kaiser , an excellent location on a side street off the pedestrian only Kartner Strasse. This was a few blocks from the Opera Ring with subway stop and many trams available. however the first room they showed us was very dark and depressing compared to the light public lobby area. the second room we accepted, it was pink and white and felt like springtime. Another trip stayed at the other end of Kartner Strass, near St Stevens at the Hotel Wandl. This was much more Viennese in flavor, our room had frescoed cieling with clouds and angels, holding up the cieling were four gilded angels, one in each corner! This was almost half the price of the Roemisher Kaiser, and a great bargain.

My husband, son and his 17 year old friend stayed at the Neue Post (pronounced NOYA POST) Hotel in Innsbruck Feb. 1996. Very nice accomodations, prices reasonable, exchange rate at hotel best in town and meals available at the hotel and the food was superb. You can e-mail them at [email protected] or visit their website at www.ping.at/goli/HotelNeuePost. Good luck.

Thanks to both of you for the suggestions. I would appreciate hearing from anyone else with experience in these cities, particularly the hotels mentioned in my post.
