Austria - timeshares

Going to Austria for 2 weeks end of September - anyone used time shares in Vienna or Salzburg areas or have recommendations for timeshares anywhere in vacinity that are good to trade? First time out of country so a little nervous.

Frank, We spent a week at a timeshare at Grundlesee RCI no. 2578, at Bad Aussee just outside of Salzburg. It was fantastic. A wonderful village where traditional clothing is worn by many people every day, not just a tourist thing. We caught the train to Bad Aussee from Vienna, but it is easy to get the bus or train from Salzburg also. We visited the Salt Mines where Hitler had hidden all the great art treasures during WW11. We found nothing whatsover that you could feel apprehensive about. When we missed the last bus, locals helped us get back to the resort and we made many friends. Go and have fun. Peg

We traded with RCI for a week in the ski area of Zell Am Zee several years ago. Very comfortable walking town, easy to get around and very near Salzburg. We did request a year in advance, don't know how difficult it is to get an international exchange these days.

Help, please. I am very curious now, please tell me what a time-share is? I'm going to Austria in April with husband. We want to vist the town of Hallstatt and that area. Is a time-share something I can benefit from?

Hi Lynn, I travelled to Europe for 4 weeks and 2 of those I used my timeshare, one week in Austria and a bonus week in Spain. Basically you buy a share of a resort or club for one week per year but you don't have to stay there you can use an exchange company to swap it for you. Besides the exchanges there are bonus weeks. A good site to start finding out about time share is www.rci.com and also the Timeshare Users Group Bulletin Board similar to Fodors. I think the site is www.TUGBBS.com if not I will let you know. Hope that helps. Peg.
