ATMs in Europe
Hi.
We will be going to Europe (Greece, Hungary, Austria, Czech Republic) shortly & have never used ATMs there before.
Can anyone give us the scoop on the PINs? We use 4-digit codes & hear that machines in Europe do not have letters or use the "zero".
Thanks.

Be sure to notify your bank well ahead of time that you will be using your card in Europe. Also, find out what your daily withdrawal limit is. Being new to using ATM's myself, I ran into problems in Italy in June when I tried to withdraw 200 euros it refused my card. After several attempts at different banks & much frustration, I had to call my credit union only to find out that my limit was $200 not 200 euros!!! So, all we had to do was refigure the amount in euros so that it wouldn't exceed $200. Boy, did I feel stupid or what. After that, it worked fine!

dinks, no one has mentioned the letters. True, the keyboard will not have letters, only numbers -- so learn your pin as the matching numbers rather than letters if that's what you do now. But I have no idea what you mean by no zeros. Sure they do.

I was in Budapest last year in Sept, and we didn't have any trouble with the ATM's, short of taking out too much money. So, just choose wisely when you're selecting an amount out of the ATM; it was even more inexpensive in Budapest than we thought it was going to be... a good problem to have
