ATM cash limits?
I am going to London in August and will need close to 500 pounds right away in order to pay for my flat rental, etc. Popular opinion seems to be that the best exchange rates are at the ATM's in London (rather than my home bank) but is there a daily limit to the amount of cash one can take like there is here at home? I can't arrive at our flat cashless , and it will be a Sunday morning, so no banks. Any advice?

i know there's a limit although i don't recall how much. i believe it's £200. to be certain, look up the london banks on the web. at least that way you can find out what their limits are or get a phone number where you can call and ask. sorry i'm not much help.

Yes, it is up to your bank to set the limit, not theirs. Another thing to remember is that a given ATM may not give you the cash even within your withdraw limit. I got "cannot contact your bank" message couple of times and no cash. Provided no problem with your account, you either have to look for another ATM (should not be a problem at the airport) or same machine another day to get the cash out.
There is a limit on your atm card when you withdraw from the bank. I do alot of traveling overs seas and only carry and ATM card and credit card. If you have an ATM card with the Visa or Mastercard logo and the flat rental accepts credit cards that is one way around your delema and still pay cash. Beware, If you are using a card with the Visa Logo on it after one purchace Visa will call your home, ask that you varify that you made the charge. If you do not get the message and are not able to varify it they will cut off your visa portion of your ATM card. I know this does not sound promising but if you can call home the next day and retreive the phone message and call back all will be ok.
