ATM Cards in Germany

I am headed to Berlin for two weeks in July and was just curious if anyone else had used an ATM Card there and how well it worked. Is it going to be better for me to take travelers checks or the card?
Thank you so much for all your help!

Take the card. Forget the TCs. Europe Bank Machines (ATM) are plentiful and just as easy as in the US.

ATM's are the best way to go. There are ATM's all over Germany - and certainly in Berlin. Just make sure with your bank that your card can be used internationally (I think all you need is a 4 number pin code). My wife and I just recently returned from living n Germany for the last 4 years, and we used our ATM cards exclusively all over Europe.

ATM's are everywhere and we never had any problems. No need for traveler's checks. I do like to travel with a small amount of U.S. cash as an emergency backup but haven't had to exchange any of it so far.

Thank you all so much for your help. I took TCs five years ago when I traveled, but I was 15 and that was all I had. I really appreciate the answer and all the help.

Many small towns do not have ATMs. So if you're going to be out in the boondocks for an extended period of time, do get some cash before you leave the bigger places.

If you use a "word" as a password, be sure you know it in numbers because most European ATMs do not have letters on them.

Most ATMs will have a choice of languages if you feel that might be a problem. Don't worry about it.

Have a good trip.
