I've been to Assisi, and we had no trouble parking. I don't remember where the train station was, but we parked up the hill and there seemed to be adequate parking available.

Lulu, Have you asked the hotel? The train station is about 3 miles away.

I'm sure there is people on this board who know a lot more about this than me but I was in Assisi last month on a day trip from Rome. We took a cab from the train station up to the town it cost about 10 euros but I did pass parking lots right outside the old city walls. Have you asked at the hotel for their parking suggestions?

I checked the website below and found a map which gives you an idea of the closest parking lot:
http://assisi.italy.allwebhotels.com/hotel.phtml/4548/intl/en

It may look far, but it's walking distance. This hotel looks fairly close to where we stayed and it may take 5-10 min to walk to the parking. Also, you may want to send the hotel an email requesting a map. I believe though that the closest parking is behind the church of Saint Claire.

sorry - just to clarify...I didn't maen to make it sound like there was parking directly behind the church, because there isn't. you have to walk up the steep hill behind the church to the parking.

I would think the most obvious place to ask this question would be the hotel! Have you asked them?

Thank you, everyone, for all your input and advice. I will ask the hotel too. It's just that I've read so many other posts here from guests of the hotel who've had real frustrating parking experiences. I'm just trying to avoid that, if possible. -Lulu-

You can drive up the hill to Assisi, and park on or around Piazza Matteoti - it is only about 60 metres down a narrow cobble street to your Hotel - unfortunately a few more metres steep uphill - but not that bad! If you are brave, you can park closer - in front of the Duomo San Rufino - then you are about20 metres from your Hotel! We have stayed in the Sister Hotel - San Rufino a month ago! It is very easy to drive up to Assisi and to the Piazza Matteoti!
Enjoy Assisi!

Thank you, Lekker. I just received an email from the hotel which said: "The nearest parking is in Piazza Matteotti. See the attached map." The map was virtually unreadable. I'll need to see a map w/P. Matteotti on it. Do you think it's easy to find?
-Lulu-

Lulu - Piazza Matteotti is very easy to find. Just follow the road up to the top of the town. Here's a street map:

http://www.assisionline.com/cartcenx.mv?+us+centro253a.gif+piazza%20Matteotti+ H2

http://www.assisionline.com/vie.mv?+us

Hope this helps ...

Steve

Yes, Lulu - it is very easy to find Piazza Matteotti! As Steve mentioned you follow the road uphill - and follow the directions to Gualdo Tadino, once you have reached the outskirts of Assisi. this will lead you directly to Piazza Matteotti. It is really easy to drive up til there!

You guys are so Very helpful! Once again, thank you, Everyone. I'm printing everything and stapling it to the hotel confirmation, so I'll have it all available at a glance.
-Lulu-
