Ascona and Cully
We just returned from Switzerland, and I am suffering withdrawal! We stayed in two absolutely marvelous little towns: Cully and Ascona. Cully is a village on Lake Leman (Lake Geneva) in the wine country and near to Vevey, Montreau, and Lausanne. We had half board at the Hotel au Major Davel (12 rooms) and had fantastic food. As far as I am concerned, Ascona is a little bit of heaven. A beautiful small town on Lake Maggiore with mountains in the background. We walked, swam, boated, visited mountain villages, sat at sidewalk cafes enjoying beverages...just enjoyed life. We stayed at Castello Seeschloss, a marvelous 4-star hotel, again a place with fantastic food.

Could we hear more, please? Maybe see pictures? I am sure swandav and jmw will soon pop in and ask for the same
Have been to Ascona, but not to Cully (though I know other charming villages at Lake Geneva) and fully agree with you.

Hello flobullock,
Thanks for writing in, and, yes, as Ingo says, of course we want to hear more! I'm on a quest to collect the best flowered lakeside promenades; my favorites so far are Montreux's (which stretches from Clarens to Villeneuve) and Morges (signs say it goes to Lausanne, but I haven't been that far . . . yet). So, what can you tell me about the lakeside walks of Ascona & Cully? Actually, I once had lunch in Cully, at the Major Davel, I believe. There were families (seemed to be dressed for a 19th Century Victorian picnic) cavorting on the lawn in front of the hotel -- very scenic, very atmospheric.
Anyway, welcome to the group of folks who love Switzerland. Unfortunatley, you'll find that your addiction will only get worse; there's so much more to discover in Switzerland, and it's all so good.
Hope to hear more --

Hi, flo, You've absolutely made my day! Aren't they great?! Were you able to explore Lutry (while in the lavaux) and St. Saphorin? And what about Ronco s. Ascona? If you enjoyed the lights across Maggiore at night, then you were probably gazing at Gerra, one of my favorites. Looking forward to anything more you'd like to add, J.

You're right - I'm addicted. One of the fun things we did when at Ascona was take a bus ride from Locarno to Mergoscia, a tiny town in the mountains where the bus route ended. On the way back down the mountain, a couple of cars had to back up so that our bus could get by on the very narrow road. The scenery was spectacular - as it seems to be in all of Switzerland! We also loved visiting Brissago Islands and the beautiful gardens there. We took the boat from Ascona to get there.

Hello again, flo. By the way, there is a webcam for Ascona, for when your withdrawal becomes severe. I'm so pleased to find someone who is fond of the smaller towns in Switzerland. Feel free to join us at one of the Support Group for Those Who Love Switzerland threads.
No trip photographs? sigh. J.
