Around the World Airfares

Hi, all,

Has anyone utilized that so-called "around the world" airline ticket? (Regardless of airline/booker.) Any feedback or suggestions for reputable websites offering this type of fare?

Thanks.

We will be using a Qantas/BA Round the World ticket for our upcoming trip in September, which has resulted in a considerable saving. We are using a Travel Agent, but I am sure details could be found from the respective airline offices.

Around the world fares are quite complicated and have specific restrictions for the lowest possible fares. Best to go to a good travel agency in your area to have a travel agent help you in person. Northwest Airline has Around the World Fares.

Good Luck!

We are using an 'around the world' ticket in Nov. thru Star Alliance (Singapore, Thai, United). We paid about $1000 USD per person and were allowed 5 stops. Like the others, we used a travel agent.

Angelique,
I believe there is a travel agency or something thereof in San Francisco that specializes in around the world type flights/trips. I first read about it in the L.A. times last year, followed a couple from San Diego who decided to take a year off and travel the world, which I am going to do. I can probable dig up the info for you if you request.

I believe the site Diaz referred to is http://www.airtreks.com/ Their "trip planner" is a fun way to put imaginary trips together.

I've used around the world fares for considerable savings a couple of times. Previous poster is correct that you need to be very specific about flight times. Fortunately, I did not have to test the system by changing a leg of the flight. Booked directly with the airline but could have booked with a travel agent as well. Tried a website & found it a real hassle. All of the major airlines I checked with the last time I did this can put together these kinds of tickets.
