Are there prix fixe type menus in Rome?

I was just wondering if there was fixed type pricing at restaurants like there was in Paris?

Yes there are and they're called "menu degustazione." Not all restaurants offer one but most of the better ones offer some kind of variation on this "tasting menu" theme.

A restaurant by the name of "Gusto" in the area of Piaz. Augusto Imperatore offer a weekday luncheon buffet and Sunday Brunch. It's frequented by business people during the week. It received some good reviews in the "Rant and Wave" section located on this website. This is not exactly what you're looking for, but a slight variation. Mike

Many osterie and some trattorie also do nothing but a fixed price meal. For example, Der Pallaro will give you antipasti, pasta, entree, vegetables, dessert, wine and water for 20 Euro per person. There is no choice as to the dishes you get, it's whatever Paola is cooking that day. Other places that come to mind that operate this way are Osterie da Ada on Via Banchi Nouvi, Augusto on Piazza di Renzi in Trastevere, and Da Felice in Testaccio. There are many others. For a more high end dining experience, Checchino dal 1887 offers at least two menus di degustazione.

Thanks, guys! Now, I understand that a trattoria is a family owned restaurant, but what is an osterie? I will definitely keep the Trastevere locale in mind, but can someone recommend good Trattorias close to the Italian Parliment near Montecitorio?

Osteria (singular)/osterie (plural) were mainly places where you would drink wine and maybe something else in food (coming from the house the osteria belonged to). Nowadays these places are mainly restaurants that have kept an old name and where they might serve a traditional, home made cuisine.
As for the prix fixe, you might also find the so called: MENU' FISSO or MENU' A PREZZO FISSO. Grinisa explained correctly in what it consists.
There are many osterie and trattorie in Trastevere, mostly because in the past times it was a popular quarter.

Dar Pallaro, mentioned above, is fantastic. We liked it so much we ate there twice. Menu changes daily and the 20Euro/person may include tip (at least WE had trouble leaving one - we insisted). It's location just off Campo Di Fiori is a short walk from Montecitorio.
