There are, and often lift too (but I don't remember a lift at Passeig de Gracia I mention below). I remember from my last trip there in New Year, the train from the airport stops at Sants and Passeig de Gracia and not at Plaça de Catalunya. Passig de Gracia to P.Catalunya is about 5 - 10 minutes walk. At the airport the train is overground so no need of up and down, but at Passeig de Gracia, it seems to me there are at least 5 - 10 steps to climb before you get to the exit turnstile. After that, I think there is at least one exit with escalator. You will find yourself near Casa Batllo.
Here you see Casa Batllo with Metro/Renfe Commuter train station sign.

This exit right by the Casa Batllo does NOT have escalator.

You would probably be better off taking the Aerobus.

Kybourbon is right. Besides you can forget about steps with bus, Aerobus stop is right outside the airport building while you have to walk an overground bridge/passage to the train station for 5 minutes or so that I find quite a long way. Also the bus goes direct to P.Catalunya and the train doesn't as I said.
