Are there any new ideas on affordable accommodation in Paris?
Hi there. I am heading to Paris in July for 5 nights and am having a very hard time finding accommodation which is reasonably priced while still being clean and highly recommended. All the reviews I am finding (which there are a lot of) are all really out of date therefore seem pretty unreliable. I wonder whether Paris has it's own take on something like the Michelberger Hotel in Berlin, citizenM in Amsterdam or the Ace Hotels in the US? I don't particularly desire these 'modern' hotels but the price is right. If there are any charming Parisian boutiquey hotels that are budget but clean that would be even better? Any new advice (those who have travelled this year or last year) would be greatly appreciated.

Ah yes. In general for all of our Europe travel we have been looking at accommodation €60 - €70 a night as our NZD isn't so great against the euro (although at the moment it is actually quite high compared to what it usually is). In saying this I am aware that Paris accommodation is higher than most other places so I am willing to take it up to €85 possibly €100 if totally necessary. Of course the cheaper options would be preferable.

Kerouac, a regular on this Forum, often mentions hotels in his outlying neighborhood that are quite a bit more reasonable than those in the center.
Also, there is a thread on Tripadvisor, "Paris for the financially challenged", that had some good suggestions.

The only ones I have recent experience of are stretching your budget a bit, but are nice and well-situated:

Here's one recommended by an Australian couple whose blog I read. It's a little further out, but a nice neighbourhood and closer to your budget:

A couple of choices recommended by a friend who likes budget travel in "atypical" neighborhoods:
Hotel Reims
32 Rue d'Aubervilliers
75019 Paris
(he paid about 70 euros per night)
and
Hotel Alyss Saphir Cambronne Eiffel
62, rue de la Croix-Nivert
75015 Paris (he also paid about 70 euros per night - better location than the first choice)

Thanks for the Hotel Cosmos mention, jamikins - I will pass that along to our friend - it seems like his kind of hotel. And did you make friends with the hotel cat shown in their photos?

Hi
I think you should look for an apartment. Much better value and cooking facilities will cut costs. Try http://www.christoph-grandt.com/paris.html. It's extremely popular but you could be lucky. Tell him worldinabag referred you. No folks I don't get any kickbacks...
