Mostly, shorts are an American fashion crime, and you're not going to be travelling in America, are you? OK, some of my compatriots also wear them, and always for the same reasons - a pronounced lack of class and an obstinate refusal to adapt to local dress standards. Robbiegirl - for heaven's sake, tell your husband to grow up, or stay home.

Hi rg,

>Perhaps though the linen and cotton trousers are a good idea.<

You are aware that that is, perhaps, the most easily wrinkled fabric he could have chosen?

My Lady Wife puts me in Polyester/Cotton blend slacks that don't require ironing.

YOU GROW UP..or learn how to speak with people in this medium. It has NOTHING to do with growing up or not. You wont be in Italy at that time, will you?

robbiegirl - Our last trip to Europe, I took along a pair of long cargo type shorts, with have the zippered leg section, which covers the knees, and I was never denied access to any church or cathedral in Italy. As the temperatures in August were vey hot, I was able to leave the church, and outside zipper off the bottom leg section, and continue on, feeling very comfortable & cool.
I always felt sorry for the guys wearing long trousers or jeans, on a hot day, especially, when they had to wear them to gain entry to a church.

Neil-Oz, people are sick and tired of your constant anti-american sniping. Go find a new whipping boy for your emotional frustrations.

Tulips, you aren't kidding about people in Italy wearing winter clothes in October regardless of the weather! It was about 80 degrees last week and they were wearing long sleeves and in some cases jackets! My husband and I, in an effort to blend in, tried it one day but we roasted and so just resigned ourselves to being the tourists in the short sleeves (but no shorts).
