Are protein bars allowed in carry-on?

I'd like to take some on my flight. They're kind of like a paste though, individually wrapped in mylar-type foil. Might I have a problem taking them on? (Leaving for Mexico this week--not Europe, but I trust you guys!) Thanks.

You shouldn't have a problem with protein bars. You can bring along most sandwiches from home. I brought grapes last time I flew.

Have fun in Mexico!

I have carried chewy protein bars and not had any problem. You are right, there is sometimes a fuzzy line between solid, liquid, gel, paste. Ice cubes (solid) aren't allowed, neither are icepacks, nor peanut butter, unless spread on wonder bread.

Perhaps the criteria is if you can spread it then it's classifed as gel or paste and it's not allowed.

You brought grapes?!!?

Wouldn't it have been possible for you to squeeze the grapes and come up with more than 3oz liquid grape juice?

That loophole must be closed asap.
