Are protein bars allowed in carry-on?
I'd like to take some on my flight. They're kind of like a paste though, individually wrapped in mylar-type foil. Might I have a problem taking them on? (Leaving for Mexico this week--not Europe, but I trust you guys!) Thanks.

I have carried chewy protein bars and not had any problem. You are right, there is sometimes a fuzzy line between solid, liquid, gel, paste. Ice cubes (solid) aren't allowed, neither are icepacks, nor peanut butter, unless spread on wonder bread.
Perhaps the criteria is if you can spread it then it's classifed as gel or paste and it's not allowed.
