Are Christmas decorations discounted after holidays?

Kind of a weird questions I'm sure, but thought I may as well ask it. Are Christmas decorations typically discounted in stores after Christmas is over in Austria? I would love to take home a few mementos and I'll be around for a week or two after the holidays are over so if I can get ornaments, nativity scenes, etc. for half the price I think I'd like them as souvenirs even more! I just don't want to wait until Christmas is over in hopes that they will be discounted and then find that the stores have taken them out of their inventory altogether when they reopen again. Like I said, just thought I would put the question out there. Thanks!

An excellent question. I hope someone in Austria will have the answer for you.

Not from Austria, but from Germany - so take my remarks with some caution until they get confirmed by locals from AT..

You will hardly find any Christmas decorations at all in any department store after Dec. 24 - except in those "all year Christmas stores" in tourist destinations.
Maybe some stores specialized in interior decorating items or china/porcelain will have some discounted stuff - but you should not expect to find huge "sales" all over town.

Again, Germany, thus to be taken 'cum grano salis'.

You'll find discounts on Christmas sweets. Christmas decorations - maybe a few shops will still offer a bit of standard stuff at reduced prices. But who wants and needs Christmas decorations after Christmas? No one. Shops will hardly sell much, so they won't offer much, they'll store the 'better' things for next year and put them on display again next October or November. So don't expect a big choice.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll try to do my Christmas decoration shopping before Christmas.
