April Beach Spain/Portugal

My husband and I are headed to our friend's wedding in Madrid in mid-April. We would like to add on a few days after the wedding to go Mallorca/Menorca or the Algarve.

Any thoughts on weather?

I get very cranky and miserable when beach vacations turn rainy!

April is not 'Beach weather' unless you go to the Canary Islands.

Your: "I get very cranky and miserable when beach vacations turn rainy!" tells me you want to treat this as a beach vacation. Forget that!

Agree, you need to look at the Canaries.

Another vote for the Canaries - the weather is much more reliable than even southern Spain. You should be able to get a flight to one of the islands from Madrid easily enough.

Thanks for all the feedback. Any pick on the which of the islands in Canarias? I know they are quite different from each other.

OK...seriously now; La Palma and Tenerife would be your best bet.

La Palma is my favourite of the Canaries, but it does have black sand and not many beaches. It is a very green island and in April should be just lovely. The west side of the island has the better weather, so Peurto Naos ot Peurto Tazacorte, or in the south around Feuncaliente there are a couple of beaches. On the east side is the more package holiday area of los Cancajos, which also has a beach (and the airport!)

www.hoermann-bc.de/kanaren.html has web cams and http://tinyurl.com/338a32 has photos.

www.islalapalma.com/en/index.html
has some info on the islad in English.
