Apartment in Rome - Good Location?

Greetings,

I am in the ending stages of planning our france/italy trip and my last place to book is our place to stay in Rome (October trip). I realize that pickings are getting pretty slim at this time.

Here is a description of an apartment I am looking to book (and is available)...I was hoping someone could give me their opinion of the location, as well as its worth for the money.

This is the description of the location:

"the apartment is in Via della Vetrina, steps from Via dei Coronari as well as steps from Piazza Navona. It's surrounded by restaurants, outdoor cafès, little shops. The area is the most central and lively, but the apartment is quiet.
The important monuments, museums and best sites are all at walking distance and of course bus stops to go anywhere you wish.
On the way to Piazza Navona, about 100 meters, there is the famous Hotel Raphael."

They want about $215 USD per night for a 2 bedroom, 861 sqft apartment. Does that description sound appropriate for the $? We are looking for a good place in a good location, and it seems most hotels in this area are already book. Thanks in advance for the help!

I can't respond on the value of this property (it might help if you included the website, so we could look at pictures), but that looks to be a very nice location, roughly in between Piazza Navona and the Vatican, and not on a major street so hopefully not too noisy.

Here is a link to the listing:

From the pictures, it's not much to look at (at least from the outside), but if the location is good, it seems like it might be worth it?

This apartment seems to have almost everything you might want or need. The only thing not mentioned in the details is what floor it is on. Because there is no mention of an elevator/lift it would appear that there isn't one. One of the pictures shows what I would think is the view from the terrace, so it looks like the apartment is on the 3rd or 4th floor.

If that is not a problem for you, then it looks pretty good and it is in a good central location, though what the street itself is like I couldn't say.

As you say yourself, at this late stage pickings are getting pretty slim!

When are you in Rome? I'm there 15-21 October and renting just up from the Pantheon.

I was thinking the same thing about it being on an upper floor w/out an elevator. That shouldn't be a probably for us, only a minor inconenience when we're dragging our luggage in/out.

Looks like we'll be there the week after you will, Julia. Have fun!

The location is good. I just stayed in that area in March. I find the price a bit high, however, but that could be due to the ammenities of a jacuzzi and terrace.

If it's any comparison, I rented this apartment for nearly $100 less per night in the same general area (for three people)

But, like you said...pickings are getting slim and if you can afford it you might want to nail it down. Too bad there aren't more photos to give you more of an idea of what it looks like.

Good luck.

julia t -

I think you were the poster who gave me the info on Frescati. I will be in Rome from October 8th - 18th, and look forwad to taking the train out for a day trip.

Krunko - agree with the others - this is a great location, and pickings will only get slimmer the closer you get to your departure date. Hope you have a great time!!

I think perhaps I am paying a little extra for the fact that it is two bedrooms...so technically it could be comfortable for up to four people.

The more I think about it, it is probably not that bad of a deal for $215 a night, although it would have been nice to get one of those sleepinitaly.com deals. I tried to contact them, but have not received a reply back.

Statia-When you stayed on Via Panico did you buy one of the wonderful handbags from the little shop on that street? I bought a tangerine one with a silver chain strap and get compliments on it from everyone!
