Thomas Cahill is reknown for his interesting and thought provoking writings on the Catholic church, and even though I don't always agree with his occassional viewpoint, or the depths to which he takes his arguements, he does write well.

I don't think Broad's post was distasteful at all. She has a very valid point. Don't you think it is distasteful to cart the pope's body around? However, the reason they do this may be linked to all the Vatican intrigue throughout history. Maybe they show the pope's body to prove that he is dead. I am sure in the time of the Borgias, for example, pope's could be proclaimed dead when they really weren't. They could have been imprisoned somewhere, by a usurper who wanted to ascend to the Throne of St. Peter. Does anyone know the reason for displaying the pope's body????

Regarding flights to Rome - my husband called Continental last night regarding our flights in May using frequent flyer miles - in talking with the gentleman from Continental he said he had just gotten off the phone with a woman and that there were no flights available at this time for the next days and that when they were they were $4,000 in coach until the last one sold.
