Long haul flights: Full catering service.

Short haul: "deli bags" ie sandwiches, cakes etc and drinks available on the plane.

I think JamesA is talking about the tense situation between BA and Gate Gourmet. I don't know what's the latest, but you may want to check the BA forum on Flyertalk.com.

I do not the latest regarding the tense situation and Gate gourmet, but we flew BA in June and July from US to Heathrow and in the time we left to return the food had turned pretty lousy. The kids meals were even more dismal, even the flight attendants were shocked at how lousy the food had become. Apparently they had some changes on July 1st and not for the good in my opinion.

I read that drinks and meals choices were limited on the long hauls from Heathrow, this is not for me as I never use them but for friends coming out on vacation next week.

There's also an article on today's (8/24) Wall Street Journal. Basically BA has signed new contract with Gate Gourmet, but GG is still discussing with its own union workers.

Also, today (8/24), BA for the first time in 12 days served hot meal on longhauls departing LHR, but for shorthauls, they're giving passengers coupons to get food at the airport.

BA agreed in principle to provide cash and extend their contract with GG BUT only once GG resolves it's contract dispute with the union. I don't consider that a done deal.

According to news reports, Gate Gourmet has reached some agreement with its union workers. Look like things should be going back to normal, at least for now.
