Anyone ever stayed in a charming, secluded quaint cottage?

The National Trust offers cottage properties for rent - I have placed the site link below. You will need to search through each area for the thatched roof type - there are several. There are also some wonderful looking properties that might fit for you without the thatched roof but are one bedroom, have a view and a garden. Good luck on your hunt and please let us all know where you decide to stay and then of course, come back and tell us all about it. It sounds like a wonderful dream that you can make happen!!

Carrie: I've done just what you are talking about. If you want to see the village we stayed in and rented a cottege, minus the thatched roof, rent or look for a movie called "War of the buttons" details here:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0111666/
The name of the village was Union Hall and it's just a bit southwest of Cork. It was close to doing the Ring of Kerry sing-alongs in Skibereen all seemed right out of the "Visit Ireland" commercials.
this shows a bit more.

I believe on this cottage we went through Rose Cottages.

I know this is a far cry from Ireland but I had the greatest trip to secluded Negril, Jamaica -- airy, dark-wood private cabanas on the cliffs over the Caribbean, steps cut into the cliffs so you're seconds away from a swim in the warm ocean.
The cooking lady brings breakfast to your private veranda with Blue Mountain Jamaican coffee in the mornings. Large hammocks in the wrap around verandas allow you both to nap in the shade with a perfect view of the Caribbean - there was a group of dolphins surfacing in the mornings when we went. Mellow reggae music playing in near-by bars and lounges set on the cliffs over the water. In the evenings, we'd walk to jerk-stands or more elegant cliff-side restaurants, or 3 Dives for a platter of freshly caught lobsters for around $20.
An intimate setting with only around 6 cabanas, well-spaced to afford some privacy -- all for around $100 USD a night.
I absolutely loved it. Snorkelling was really fun too -- good music, great drinks and food, very nice local people, very affordable and a short flight from Chicago.

Hello, LSUvetgirl (does the LSU vet school do exchanges with Belgium?). The Pottern location is great for daytrips in all directions. We stayed in Monkton Farleigh near Bradford-on-Avon for seven nights some years ago. Visited the lower Cotswolds, Exmoor, Salisbury and Stonehenge, Old Sarum, Avebury, one of the chalk horses, Lyme Regis, Glastonbury, Wells, and several beautiful houses and gardens. Good area. J.

Why stay in a cottage when you could try a pineapple, a pigsty, a turret or a castle!

Haven't stayed at any of these, yet, but I'm booked into The Apartment at Pinewood Cottages the first week of April. Located in Kilcrohane, on the Sheepshead in Co. Cork.
