We have stayed in the Hirsch Hotel in Fussen. Well located, fairly large, not inexpensive, as I recall. Food in the hotel was OK. There also are some hotels near the castles, but I do not remember their names. That said, I really do not recommend Fussen to spend the night. Not very interesting and without doubt the worst food that we have encountered on three trips to Germany. Hotel restaurant was OK -- some other, more upscale looking restaurants, were simply bad. There are lots of better places to stay and you can easily day-trip to the castles.

we went to the castles last april and stayed overnight in phronten (sp?). the hotel name we stayed at was the berg hotel falkenstein and it was fabulous....high atop a mountain with beautiful views. we actually woke up in april to a foot of snow on the ground. the ride to the castles is about 20 minutes. if you want further information, please e mail me.

We drove to Fussen in Feb '99 and were driving around looking for a hotel when we found a great B&B: Haus Peters, 5-1/2 Augusten Strasse. We had room 1, $44.44 (80 DM), with 3 twin beds, couch, bath, balcony w/view of castle. It was one block from PO, train station, square, and a great place to stay. They let us park in their driveway, inside a fenced year. We later found out that Haus Peters is recommended by Rick Steves.

We were only in Fussen one day/night to visit the castle but we throughly enjoyed this small town. Have a great trip.

We were in Fussen in April 1998, at the end our bike trip down the Romantic Road. We stayed at the Hotel Zum Hechten at Ritterstrasse 6, 120DM/night. They served a great breakfast and were very nice, drove us out to Tegelberg where we took the Bahn to the top and watched the hang gliders and para sailers leap into space. Fussen is well situated for walks, an easy walk to Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein and through the woods to the Schwansee.
