Any suggestions for Paris hotel
We will be spending several days in Paris in June. Can anyone recommend a decent, clean, well-located hotel at a reasonable price? Would love to hear from you.

This type of request occurs almost daily. There are many, many Parisian hotels that fit your description. However, in order to get specific suggestions, it would help greatly to state how much you are willing to spend per night.

There are literally hundreds of posts with lots of detail on this subject. I'd suggest you enter "Paris Hotels" in the search function and look through a few of them. If you still have questions then come back and ask specifics.
Sorry if this sounds rude, it's just that it is pointless to ask such a vague question, not giving any idea of what you consider "reasonable price" --$400 euro for a five star(?) or give us any indication of where you want to stay or what you are looking for. Well located for what?
Of course, some people will post with a single suggestion from their one experience of where they stayed. But I think you'd be wiser to sift through some of the posts and see what sort of thing appeals to you first.

I would also suggest you do a little research on the various areas of Paris and decide what area sounds like an area you would like to stay in. A rule of thumb is you should limit the possibility to the first 10 arrondisements.

Everyone needs to stop attacking other people's posts. Some people seem to be very rude on here when a typical question comes up. It has happened to me.
Usually when someone posts a question that has been posted before, they are new. New people on Fodors do not know to look before they post.
If everyone wants people to keep coming back, then answer their question nicely. Try to answer their question even it is vague.
I am sure that some people never come back after their question is torn apart.
To HAR32JU34: I think your question is clear. I posted a similiar response a while back. With the advice of other people on here, I was able to book Hotel Monge on www.hotelmonge.com
You can go to www.google.com and type in " Reviews on Hotel Monge" and many good reviews will show up on a site called TripAdvisor.
I was able to get a room there for 92 Euro per night in March. Good luck!

Collegetravelers, maybe some people do attack other people's posts. But the majority of us do not-at least that is not the intention. The post from HAR32JU34 is NOT clear. A "well-located hotel at a reasonable price" for me may not mean the same for HAR32JU34 or for you. Therefore, one's posts need to be specific so that one can get meaningful suggestions from others.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I have been trying to access previous information about hotels in Paris to help me pinpoint an area and price range, but each time I try, I get a "Web not Responding" box instead of the relevant postings. I don't know if it is my computer, or if I am doing it incorrectly. Any suggestions?

HAR32JU34, keep trying on the text search. I think that many of us have had some problems with this site lately. Perhaps they are doing some revamping.
My suggestion would be to search for "Paris Hotels" and see what interests you. Personally, I prefer the Latin Quarter area for it's liveliness and proximity to many of the major sites. Additionally, we loved Hotel Monge when we stayed there in July.

could you say what you are interested in spending per night?
decent and clean should go without saying, but beyond that you can pay anything from 75 euro per night to 275 euro per night.
Do you require an elevator, tv, and/or a/c? Private bath/shower?

We need a triple with a private bath in a hotel with an elevator, tv not essential, price range between $100-$150 per night. Can someone who has been there recently tell me how Americans are being treated in Paris these days, particularly since we are not fluent in French. Thanks!

We had a quad at the Hotel Claude Bernard, Latin Quarter in August. Upper floor, double bed, two twin beds (one a daybed), large room, A/C, quiet, fairly good sized closet and bath; writing desk, table and chairs, small chest, etc for 240e including breakfast. A triple would probably be less. Not the ritz-est place in the world but clean with english speaking front desk help - two metro stops nearby, seine about a 10 minute walk, 5 minutes to Pantheon. check their website.

We just stayed at Hotel Splendid (Spendido). It was about $140 through Hotels. com. It is right by the Eiffel tower in the Ecole Milatere District. there is a Metro stop there as well as Rue Cler a few steps away.

My hats off to those who did not dignify the negative comments with a response. While this may not be HAR32JU34s first post, we all are learning every day, and responses that are contsructive are the best. I know I have had a few moments of frustration the past week, but is best to take a deep breath and try to put ourselves in the others position. Imagine this, you have never been to Paris (maybe never Europe), the tour books all show the same pictures (Paris must be a manageable samll city - right), most of your experiances with hotels have been the wide world of american mediocity, in which case....gee maybe the innocent questions posed were fair. Our role should be to guide and help....some of us are doing that. HAR32JU34, do a little homework on neigborhoods, prices, specific needs, maybe pick out a few hotels that look okay and then re-ask your question....you'll get lots of advice, Im sure

Has anyone stayed in Ile St. Louis area? I read a description of the area, and it sounds very appealing. We require elevator, A/C, triple room and would like to spend no more than $150 per night. Are we dreaming? Also interested in your suggestions for dining in that area.

The Ile St Louis is beautiful. The 3 hotels there are the Lutece, Hotel des deux Iles, Hotel St. Louis. Not sure about triples or prices. In the current thread called "Paris is Overwhelming" theres' lots of discussion of the ile.

You may want to continue to monitor the exchange rates as this can drastically alter the effective price of your hotel. If the rates seems pretty good, you may want to negotiate with the hotel and prepay vs putting down a deposit and find you're paying a ton more next June.
