Any problem using ATM or CC cards in Hungary?

Just what the title says - We'll be going to Budapest in 2 months and have heard stories about problems in other European countries and acceptance of ATM (to get $$ from ATM machines), and Master or Visa credit cards issued in the U.S.

Any experience with this in Hungary?

We had absolutely no problems with either card.

No problems when I went either; just be sure to let your credit card companies know that you will be using them out of the country. Have a nice trip.

Used an ATM card in Budapest without problems and certainly had no problems using my Visa card to pay for the hotel, meals, etc.

None whatsoever. My only problem was, I couldn't get used to paying 40,000 units of something for a room

We were in Miskolc, Hungary in 2005. No problems with Visa credit card or ATMs.
Agree with Tomboy- was unnerving paying in such high numbers of Forints but euros are soon to be adopted in Hungary.

Have a feeling that once they change to Euros everything will cost more! Forints seem high - but it really translates to little money in US funds.

Don't hold your breath about Hungary joining the Euro zone soon. The consensus is that it will be sometime after 2010 for Hungary to meet the economic standards for joining.
