For us, the best breakfast you can have is to walk into a local cafe and stand at the bar with the locals and have a croissant and coffee, tea, or hot chocolate. There's a nice cafe I used to have breakfast in when staying in that area which is just on the south side of bd St-Germain right at place Maubert.

Barry, I stayed at the Abbatial St. Germain last year. The hotel itself has very good breakfasts. There is also an open-air market on Wednesday or Thursday in the Place Maubert and you may be able to pick up breakfast there. Otherwise, I would just wander over the Boulevard St. Michel and find one of the many boulangerie/patisseries. <BR> <BR>P.S. The Abbatial St. Germain is a very nice, friendly hotel.
