Any good info on car rentals?

Intend to rent a compact car for two weeks in Sept/Oct. Auto transmission and dual air bags just don't seem to fit. Most quotes fall in the $600-750 range including ins. and tax. Does that seem in line with what any of you have experienced? Know of any good deals?
Also, appreciate any recommendations on the handling of compacts you have known. Thanks
What country are you renting in ? I just got a group f automatic , tax , cdw, theft protection included for less the $375.00 for a week. That also included dropping off at a different location and airport pickup

Try Auto Europe-their rates are good and they use all different car agencies thru Europe (ie.Avis,Hertz,Europe CAr) but all under their header and at cheaper rates than going thru the above car rental agencies.1-800-223-5555

Wendell,
The price is probably not out of line.
Italy has a 20% VAT and compulsory insurance which drives up the rate. I'd check AutoEurope and Kemwel nevertheless; both have websites.
