Any comments on Air France??
I have a flight for four to Paris on Air France, spoke to someone who referred to it as Air Chance!! Has anyone a comment of GOOD
or BAD experiences with this economical carrier?? We go for Thanksgiving week prepared for cool, wet weather.

Kristine,

Air France would be my airline of choice if going into Paris--food is EXCELLENT, service personnel very attentive and --if there are any flight irregularities--they have always come through for us.

We've flown them at least 8 or 9 times into Paris and beyond--and all have been good experiences.

In fact, on an upcoming trip to Paris using frequent flyer points, I was thrilled when Continental assigned me to an Air France flight!!

Bon journee!!
I flew Air France this September and found that it is OK. My problems were as follows: 1. the flight over from Atlanta to Paris was on a Delta code share flight, so the flight was operated by Delta. Terrible. Bungled seat assignments for openers. The seating itself was so cramped as to be miserable. Never again will I willingly fly Delta. I may be forced to, but not if I have an option.
2. Charles DeGaulle airport is a confusing place and it is very difficult to get from one terminal building to another, particularly if time is tight.
3. Flights in Europe are often delayed because of crowded skies. I recommend that if you have any connections to make, particularly if CDG is involved in the afternoon, that you allow a minimum of 2 hours connecting time.

There have been other postings that describe experiences similar to mine, except worse: they missed the flight home altogether.

In our case, we left Zurich on a flight that was scheduled to depart about 1:30. We had an hour and a half of connect time on paper at CDG. The flight was late leaving to the extent that we were an hour late in arriving. So our connecting time had shrunk to 28 minutes. It was a real panic to get from terminal B to Terminal C to catch our flight home.
Good thing it was delayed for a navigation check or we never would have made it.
Many of Air France's aircraft are made by Airbus Industries and in tourist class there is a little more knee room, perhaps 3 inches, but it is critical.
My flight to Spain (via Paris) with my Mom back in 1996 was very good. We flew from Dulles International. The food was very good. The airplane was comfortable. This was on their airbus 340.

However, my trip to Italy (via Paris) was on an old 747. We left Dulles late and missed our connecting flight. Though were there several flights to Rome, they put us on a later flight. We missed several hours of touring for Rome because of the delay. I had asked about them contacting our hotel so we wouldn't lose our room, knowing we would arrive around 6pm. They informed us they would call and took the number. We finally got to our hotel and we made it in time. The man at the desk said he never received any phone call from AF and mentioned another hour and he would have given our room to someone else.

There were other complications returning home that I decided to write a letter of complaint. We were given a $200 voucher to use, so, I decided to try them one last time. Mom and I flew to Paris this past May. We were on the NEW 777. Let me tell you, they must have made the rows for tiny people who needed no leg room. The aircraft was very warm, making it uncomfortable. Now, that may not be AF's fault, but if they ordered the 777 with those many rows, they are certainly not thinking about the passengers, but money.

I am about to decide that the airlines have consorted to put awful seating in tourist class so that those of use with long legs, like being 6 feet tall, will suffer to the extent that we buy business class seats. The only problem is that business class is frightfully expensive. I don't recall seeing any prices for a trans Atlantic flight under about $4,000 per person. For me, that is prohibitive. I might as well forget it. Sorry to hear that about the AF 777. The pitch of the seats can be adjusted, so it is an airline decision as to how tight to make it.
Hi Bob, yes, I was disappointed in the 777. My husband is an airline pilot and he was looking foward to flying on that airplane. (He ended up going to training, so he missed vacation with me). When I told him about the tight quarters, he too was disappointed.

My last trip was so stressful that I am seriously wondering if the pain of flying is offset by the joy of seeing new places in Europe and revisiting old favorites. The objective is to have fun.
That last Delta flight Atlanta to Paris was torture. I have to pay to suffer??
I now wonder if I could tolerate a flight to New Zealand!!
Don't fly Air France to Paris unless you allow two hours to catch your next flight. We flew there with one hour to catch our plane to Venice. Our AF plane got to Paris on time, but we sat on the plane for half an hour waiting for there to be an opening at the gate! We ran for our next plane; we had to get boarding passes at the counter, not at the gate (as many other airlines allow), so we and many others missed our flight. We could not get another connection for eight hours, so we sat at the airport having jet lag. We called our hotel to say we would be late arriving, probably around midnight. They said that would be fine, but when we got to our hotel, they had given our room to someone else. Fortunately, they found us another, but it was a rough start to our vacation!

Just flew on AF from Boston-Florence and back. 767 across the pond - very nice, since we managed to get the exit rows coming and going! The food & service were great. I agree about changing planes in CDG - very confusing airport! We had to go from 2C to 2F, which means that you have to follow the "Correspondence" (transfer) signs, which go down to the street level, where you wait for a bus to take you to 2F, then walk up into the terminal. Coming back it's a long walk to the bus to 2C, especially w/lots of carry-on goodies (that case of wine got very heavy!). I'd allow a good 2 hrs to change in CDG. We had 4+, so it wasn't a problem.

The plane from CDG-FLR was TINY! It was a 5 across jet (listed as a BA 146), where we were jammed in. It was AF, but operated by CityJet. It wasn't a long flight (1 hr, 20 mins), so it could be tolerated. Apparently, they can only take smaller sized planes into Florence, so if this is a problem, Pisa or Bologna would be better choices (we're looking at Bologna for the next trip).

I've flown AirFrance a couple of times, and have had good experiences (they were especially nice to my mom on our trip a couple of years ago). Food is good; service is fine; on time as well as any airline. Funny story: on the flight with my mom, Rob Roy was the movie selection. Mom says "I must have the French audio, 'cause I can't understand anything". I put her headset on and check the channel selector "nope, Mom, you've got the English version,

Don't check any luggage. On the flight there they lost the 1 bag we checked. After 2 days they said they had located it but that their delivery service was backed up so we wouldn't be receiving it for 2 or 3 days and they wouldn't put it in a taxi since we had not flown first class. Then they said they would reimburse us for $200.00 worth of purchases to tide us over until we got the bag. On the trip home we checked 3 bags and they lost 2 of them. Not a very good track record.
