Unfortunately that "Angelina's 'style' chocolate is not the same as having chocolate at Angelina's (TOO sad but true).
I suppose they wouldn't have had to sell out if they had simply contacted Rick Steves which would have brought mobs into the place but business is business I guess.

Ahh, Ira, but that's all some of us have, reminiscences of Paris!! 
Intrepid1, I'm pretty sure Rick Steves DOES mention Angélina, at least it's noted in the addendum section of <u>Europe through the Back Door</u>, Graffiti Wall, several times.

Ohhh, margyb, don't kill me, but I regret to say that although the Chantico is good it's not the same. Of course you did say "very reminiscent"!!
I found it to be about 1/4 as thick as Angélina and very sweet. I don't recall le Africain as being that sweet unless of course it's because it was cut with the whipped cream which is unsweetened.
I DO thank you, margyb, for letting us know. It is QUITE good, but alas, not Angélina.

Angelina, on the rue de Rivoli, has been around since the turn of the century (20th, that is!) and used to be called Rumplemeyer's. I have heard that it is referred to and perhaps has been even used for some scenes in old black and white movies from 20ies, 30ies, etc. It probably has had its day, but it has always been "the place" to have tea. The decor is a bit faded, but she is a grande old dame, and is known for her hot chocolate and signature pastry, le Mont Blanc, which is a confection of meringue, chestnut puree, and whipped cream.
To me, it's the salon du the equivalent of Cafe Deux Magots, Cafe de Flore, etc. Can you be in a prettier place with better food, etc.? Yes, probably, but I go there once a trip just because. . .
