Hi,

We are a group of 5 people. We bought 8 days Swiss Travel Pass. In order to take the Galcier Express we want to go from Zürich to Celerina. However, when we looked at the validity map we saw that a part of the journey from Klosters Platz to Sagliains is not included in our pass. For this journey, when we looked at the train website there is a regional express from Landquart to Celerina. We are confused, if we take the RE from Landquart to Celerina, how can we pay for the unincluded part from Klosters Platz to Sagliain?

Also we have a smiliar problem from Visp to Grindelwald. In this route, again the journey from Visp to Frutigen is not included in the validity map.

The 2 legs you mention are tunnels (20kms resp 34 kms long). They are well included in the Swiss Travel pass: no need to buy a ticket!

Yes all included 100% - for lots of great info on Swiss trains and passes check www.swisstravelsystem.com; www.budgeteuropetravel.com and www.ricksteves.com - tunnels with trains thru them are valid like any other railway - very few trains in Switzerland are not 100% covered - postal buses too - except those that only go to mountain tops - any conveyance linking two real places (towns, hamlets) is 100% covered - trains to mountain tops 50% in most cases (except Jungfraujoch Railway 25% beyond Grindelwald and Kleine Scheidegg.

Which goes to show how unhelpful those validity maps can be sometimes.

To the OP: there is one way that you can easily straighten out any pass problems In Switzerland. Simply go to any ticket window and ask if you have any questions whatsoever as to pass validity.

the maps are not the problem but learning how to read them can be confusing at first glance - I understand why sbs has confusing - tunnels are in black but does not mean that they are not valid for trains using them.

PostBuses: all Swiss PostBuses are fully covered by the Swiss Travel Pass, even if they go "only to mountain tops" (like Stelvio or Sanetsch).

What post bus only goes to a mountain top - I can't think of one - they all seem to go between two inhabitable places via mountain passes but mountain tops? Clue me in on one that does.

If they did only go to mountain tops they may not be 100% covered.

The Grindelwad Bus is not covered and is not a postal bus so one has to be careful to be sure that because it may look like a postal bus it must have the post office horn symbol on it.

wow - very few novice tourists would ever take those though but thanks - in decades of touring around Switzerland I have never taken one of them - did drive Gran St-Bernard route though.

so ALL postal buses are 100% covered - thanks for confirming.
