Switzerland Last 4 Days of Holiday

Hello,

I'm trying to finalize my holiday. I will be departing Munich on 3 October and flying out of Zurich on 7 October.

I would love any recommendations on where I should visit in Switzerland given my departure from Zurich.

I like mountains and scenery for this leg since the rest of my trip is in both Vienna and Munich.

Thanks!

The fantastic Jungfrau Region in and around Interlaken area is perfect for a 4-day sojourn - the essence of glacier-girdled Switzerland etched perhaps in your mind's eyes - toylike trains and thrilling aerial gondolas - cute Alpine villages with cozy guest houses and views from Balconies to kill for - an Alpine Wonderland and not far from Zurich by train - and trains are the best way to explore this area as cars are simply not allowed in many Alpine areas.

If going by train consider the 4-consecutive-day Swiss Pass which would cover all your transportation in Switzerland practically from get there to get go - trains, lake boats, city trams, buses and also free entry to 400+ Swiss museums - and there is a 2 for the price of 1 sale on 4-day Swiss Passes now if traveling before the end of November - making this, if traveling with someone else a great deal.

For lots of great info on Swiss trains and passes, etc check out these superb IMO sites - www.swisstravelsystem.com; www.budgeteuropetravel.com and www.ricksteves.com.

The Jungfrau Region - the essence of the Switzerland of your dreams!

Wow - great information and a wonderful tip for transportation. I will definitely take advantage. Thanks so much for the recommendations!

How does the Swiss Pass work? Do we simply take any train we like. Can we book in advance with this pass? Or both?

Swiss Pass lets you take any train anytime - just hop on with a very few exceptions - like the Glacier Express official tourist train - you can hop on local trains on the same tracks but must pay a supplement to use a pass on the Glacier Express and a handful of similar trains you never have to take - in the Jungfrau Region it covers trains in full up to Grindelwald, Wengen and Lauterbrunnen and Murren - but to the Jungfraujoch summit from Grindelwald or Wengen it gives just 25% off - very few exceptions.

For aerial cable cars it gives 50% off - but on nearly all lake boats, postal buses, city trams and buses you just hop on if you pass is valid for that day.

No need to book in advance as there are always IME empty seats and many trains anyway do not take seat reservations.

Just hop on and off anytime - a beauty of a pass. and with the 2 for 1 special on 4-day passes well a heck of a bargain.

I should have added that yes you just hop on any train anytime and then I should have said the conductor will come along and glance at your pass to see if it is valid - and IME it is just a quick glance - so so easy.
