Saps, Thank you, thank you for taking me back to my honeymoon. You made all of us want to go to Italy right now. For the last few days I have been glue to my computer reading your report. My husband thinks I am crazy because the minute I get home from work I run to my computer.

I wish you and your wife all the happiness in the world.

To Callalilli, please don't wait too much longer to go to Italy. Go as soon as you can. Trust me you won't be sorry.

Saps, wonderful trip report! Congratulations to you and your wife. I'll repeat what moldyhotelsaregross said:

Do you have a brother? cousin? youngish uncle?

Thanks so much for sharing all your lovely experiences with us [well, perhaps not all]. How many of us reading this board have not been heared along with the other cattle through the Vatican wishing we'd had the nerve to splurge on a private trip. Just to be alone [almost]in the Sistine chapel would be worth it, I think.
Also, your report is a real lesson to the "if it's thursday it must be Rome" brigade - less is definitely more!
May you and KC enjoy many more such trips.

Congratulations on your wedding!

and... "98% of the restaurants are better than anything you are eating at home so relax about trying plan every single meal" -- that is SO SO true! I have NEVER had a bad meal in Italy.

Thanks again for your kind words. It was a blast to write the report.

Okay, since 2 people asked...

2 brothers...one married, one unemployed (no Italy in his future).

Lots of cousins if you live in Great Falls, Montana.

Youngish Uncle? They might be considered young if you are 60+ .

I'll have to see if we can get a few photos posted. Luckily for all of you I didn't opt for the speedo.

I've sworn off posting to this forum, saps, but could not resist congratulating you on your well-planned honeymoon trip and the obvious satisfaction and happiness that your marriage has already brought you. Best wishes and I hope you will return many times again to Italy.

Hi Saps!

Greetings and congratulations on your marriage and your trip from a fellow Bay Area dweller!

Comments on your Post:

I agree -- no matter if it's a honeymoon or an old married couple (like me, 21 years) when I'm in Italy, I feel like I'm on a honeymoon!

My feelings are the same about Capri -- I went there years ago (before I was married) and for some reason only remembered the views and a really great pizza I had! Visiting there in October I thought "what the hell was I thinking?!" I do not remember the hordes of people (as you say, with stickers, or following the uplifted umbrella of a tour director) or upscale shopping everywhere before.

Not only did you have a wonderful idea about your place settings at your wedding; that was a GREAT idea to buy something memorable on your honeymoon instead of buying a wedding present for each other!

When we were first married we decided instead of getting each other an anniversary gift we'd buy something for the house. So it was a buffet; an entertainment unit, etc. Now that the house is completely furnished and settled any we really don't NEED anything, we'd rather spend money on our "travel addiction".

Thank you for sharing a wonderful trip report, it was a joy to read!

Regards,

Melodie
Menlo Park

You'll never understand women. Just give up now and go with the flow, you'll be better off. Your mantra is: "yes Dear".

Of course she bought 5 pairs of shoes; because they were CUTE shoes. She can buy practical at home! (although I would never travel without comfy walking shoes -- it's not my fault on our trip they turned "toxic" and I was on the Great Flip Flop Hunt!)

Saps,

Congratulations to you and your wife! I loved your report and like the other posters, I didn't want it to end! Just adored your writing style!!! Are you as articulate in person??

Question: Since we are planning to do one boat trip from Positano, which one would you recommend? I plan to do a day trip to Capri, but I don't know if we should just take a ferry over and skip visiting the grottos. The Amalfi coast trip sounded good. We'll have 17 yr old boys with us! Thanks!!

Jayne,
If I had to do just one it would be the Amalfi Coast tour. It was extremely relaxing and fun. I guess it does depend somewhat on your other boatmates though. We had a great group and enjoyed the lunch tremendously. The boat stopped at 2 grottos for swimming (about 30-40 minutes at each) but I do wish they had included one more and maybe cut the lunch a bit to accomodate.

I'm sure everybody has their own opinion but the blue grotto would not be worth a special trip for me (if I did it again). The Gennaro e Salvatore tour gives you about 4 hours on Capri and if you want to see both the towns of Anacapri and Capri then you are going to be extrememly rushed (like we were).

Without hesitation we would do the Amalfi Coast tour again but probably not the Capri tour.

Jayne, I want to back up saps on his recommendation of the Amalfi Coast tour with Gennaro & Salvatore, this was the best day of my vacation! The group was so much fun and like saps I thought the swim stops were AMAZING. We got lucky and got to do a bit of cliff jumping as well at one of the cove stops (off a natural rock arch). Lunch was fabulous and we were very entertained by Peter (son of one of the owners) and Gloria, a lady that moved to Positano from Ohio 20 years ago, who goes on most of the boat trips. A perfect day!

Saps and JenV,

THANK YOU BOTH for such awesome firsthand information!!!!! I kind of figured you'd reply this way! Personally, I feel like a good day at sea is something to remember forever! Especially if we get to cliff jump!!! Sounds like such a blast!

Maybe we'll just ferry to Capri. I want to be able to say "been there, done that!!!"

Thanks again!

Have a great trip. You'll love Positano. Hopefully the weather is great because the entire town is about sitting outside eating long leisurely dinners and strolling around the shops.
