Amsterdam with kids
Where to stay? What to do? Basically, taking the train/ferry from London via Amsterdam on our way to Duisburg Germany for a wedding. Have 3 days only in Amsterdam with two kids (9 and 11). Help!

At the top of your list should be the Anne Frank house and a canal boat tour. The flower market is a fun place to shop. Vondlepark is big and rent bikes to burn off some energy. The tram is easy for getting around. Don't know what you're looking for in terms of accommodations but I have stayed at Hotel Fita (www.fita.nl). It is very well located, walking distance to museums, Vondlepark and the Leidespleine.
Have a GREAT time in Amsterdam. It is a unique and interesting city.

Thanks so much! I love the idea of including history for our children and the Anne Frank house is perfect and I'm assuming very moving for adults that do know the history. We're just starting our planning and this certainly helps.

Well, I have not been yet. I leave on Saturday for Amsterdam with an almost 10 and freshly minted 12 year old. Here is what I have planned for the three days I am there:
Day 1 - Sunday (arrive in the am and likely with jetlag)
*Stroll through Vondelpark
*Sign up for the St Nicholaas canal boat rip at Boom Chicago. I hope to go the next day.
*Check out the art market on Spui square.
*Have a look at the Bloemenmarkt.
*If not dead by 7 pm, take an evening canal cruise to see all the bridges lit up.
Day 2 - Monday
*St Nicholaas boat trip
*Van Gogh museum (bought tickets)
*Rijksmuseum
*Albert Cuypmarkt
*Diamond tour
Day 3 - Tuesday
*Visit Central Library
*take the New Amsterdam Walking Tour
*Westerkerk
*Electric Ladyland
*Anne Frank Huis (booked for 19h30)
*Wander around Jordaan
I am staying at the Marriott near Leidesplein (on points )
Hope this helps!

For your family I would also recommend the Amsterdam Historical Museum. Very nice displays in particular at what they consider the "end" of the museum (the suggested route is in chronological order) with interesting presentations of different people including children in the most recent century of Amsterdam history. And be sure to have Dutch pancakes. We enjoyed ours at a cute little place called "Pancake!" in the shopping area known as Nine Streets. Here's the link we had to a New York Times article where we got the suggestion: http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpag...619C8B63&fta=y. We were just there last month and had a fabulous time.
