Amsterdam to Paris
Hello- I will be travelling to Amsterdam in September and would like to take a trip to Paris for a few days, then return to Amsterdam. When I have visited Europe before I have either been on an organized tour, stayed in one city, or rented a car (in Ireland only).
So- my question is the best way to get from Amsterdam to Paris- rent a car for a day, take the train, or fly?
With the train specifically I'd like to know how easy it is to carry a full size piece of luggage (which will be checked on flights). Are there limitations to storage space?
Thanks!
Matt

We took the Thalys, a high speed train, from Paris to Amsterdam last Sep. It took about 4 hours, and was very comfortable. I would say take the train.
About luggage, I don't think you should have a problem even if your bags are big, as they usually have luggage storage areas at the end (I think, I always travel light). For more train info though, check out this site: http://www.seat61.com/

cheapest round trip is usually a Smilys fare - 14 day advance purchase and non-refundable, non-changeable but cheap - actually cheaper than some one-way fares. Compare www.thalys.com and www.voyages-sncf.com for prices in euro and check RailEurope in US for their Smilys fares - Europe is often cheaper but not always. In US i use BETS (800-441-2387), RailEurope agent who doesn't charge some of their fees and and Linda there is an expert in booking. In any case to save a lot of money don't wait until you're in Amsterdam as Smilys fares are sold in limited numbers and should be reserved far in advance - can do up to 90 days in advance i believe. The Thalys train goes up to nearly 190 mph in France - ample room for luggage, much more so than on airlines. Frequent service.
