Amsterdam or Paris for Christmas

We are planning on spending Christmas week in Amsterdam or Paris. Can't decide on which one. Please send feedback (pros, cons, etc).
Also need the name of a nice place to stay for 5 or 6 nights.
I wonder if anyone knows if there are anything special to do for Christmas Eve and 25.
Thank you so much!

If chose Amsterdam you're going during the busiest week of the year - the week before New Years. Two years ago i tried to arrange any kind of hostel or hotel for my son during this week and there was almost nothing available - seems lots of people from all over Europe flock here for that week - so book well ahead if chosing Amsterdam - Paris, when i've been there during Christmas seems like a ghost town so don't think hotels a problem there. I would expect both towns to be dead as door nails on Christmas Eve and 25 and even on 26th.

Nothing to do with Christmas, but personally I strongly prefer visiting Paris over Amsterdam. Have you been to either one before?

I spent a semester in college in Holland. Amsterdam is a great city, but Paris is so beautiful. Paris wins.
But what are you looking for? It is probably easier to travel in Holland, since all the Dutch speak English.

I stayed on business at the Hotel D'Europe in Amsterdam. It's a large an older European hotel, but very nice.
