Amsterdam luxury hotels?

American is under Crowne Plaza hotels (800-2CROWNE). For luxury also consider Pulitzer (Sheraton Luxury Collection). We stayed there last year. We had a top floor room with high beamed ceiling, marble bathroom, it was terrific! This year we are also considering the Radisson SAS. Swissotel is located very close the Dam Square and that area can be busy and noise may be a problem. I wouldn't consider it a luxury hotel, although Swissotels are very nice modern hotels. We have also stayed at the Renaissance hotel. It is well located, but I don't recall the room being anything special. It is possible that they have done a renovation since that time. We stayed there about 5 years ago. Also, the Amstel InterContinental is a high end luxury hotel. But, I prefer the location of the Pulitzer. One other luxury possibility for you is the Sofitel Grand Demure.

We had stayed at the Radison in the past and it is just a regular American hotel. Not "comfy", charming or special, in fact not luxurious at all. A few months ago we stayed at the Ambassade and loved it. Filled with charm, great staff and wonderful large rooms with views of the canal with windows that opened. You should check this out because you might find this nice enough if you are used to luxury hotels. (ask for a large room because some are smaller than others).

I stayed at the Radisson SAS once and although it doesn't have the charm that smaller hotels in Amsterdam do it certainly had the conveniences not to mention that the rooms were spacious. I got the sense that this hotel catered to business travellers but it still had a sense of style. Mostly I loved the location and the staff was top-notch. The other perks were that I got a great week-end deal and frequent flyer miles for the stay.
